Door Off Its Track? Stop. Don't Run It Again.

A crooked, jammed, or hanging door is the one garage door problem that can actually hurt someone — a 150–300 lb door held by one bent rail. Leave it where it sits and call. We re-track, re-cable, and square it same-day.

What the fix involves

We disconnect the opener, clamp and stabilize the door, then work out what let go: popped rollers get re-seated or replaced, frayed or snapped lift cables get replaced in pairs, bent track gets straightened or swapped, and the door gets squared and tested through full travel. Typical off-track calls run $150–$350 depending on parts; a car-strike with bent panels and track runs more, and we'll tell you at the door whether panel replacement or a new door is the smarter money.

Cables and rollers: the quiet wear parts

Lift cables live under the same tension story as springs — and West Valley conditions age them the same way. Heat dries the strands, dust works into the weave, and the bottom bracket area collects the grit every monsoon blows under the door. A fraying cable shows itself: rust bloom or broken strands near the bottom brackets, or a door that suddenly sits crooked in the opening. Rollers announce themselves by sound — grinding or squealing on travel. Nylon replacement rollers are a cheap upgrade that makes builder-grade doors in Surprise's 2000s-era subdivisions run quieter than new.

The one thing not to do

Don't cycle the opener to "see if it clears." Every additional inch of travel on a racked door bends more track, strips the opener, and moves the door closer to coming out of the opening entirely. And don't unwind or detach anything near the bottom brackets — they're under cable tension and are the second-most-common DIY injury point after spring winding. This repair is genuinely one for a tech with door clamps and spare cable on the truck.
