The rollers and their lubricant

Garage door grease is the first casualty of an Arizona summer. Above about 115°F it thins, migrates off the roller stems and hinges, and what stays behind bakes onto the track as a dry varnish — which is why a door that was quiet in March is grinding by mid-June. The grinding itself is survivable; what it signals isn't. Dry rollers wear flat spots, dry hinges wallow out their holes, and nylon rollers that have been through fifteen Surprise summers turn brittle enough to crack under ordinary load. The June fix is a can of garage-door silicone on rollers, hinges, and the opener rail — not WD-40, which is a solvent and strips what little grease remains. Steel expands as it heats, and a door that runs sweetly at 6am can rub, shudder, or bind at 4pm for no reason other than the afternoon sun. The opener's logic board and motor

Opener motors carry a thermal cutout that trips after several back-to-back cycles, and in a 125°F garage it trips early. An opener that dies after the third open in a row, then works again half an hour later, isn't broken yet — it's protecting itself.
